ANTON KANNEMEYER (JOE DOG)

Anton Kannemeyer is an artist and founding editor of Bitterkomix (1992), a socio-political and satirical comic magazine in South Africa.
He obtained an MA in Fine Arts at the University of Stellenbosch (South Africa) in 1997 and lectured at the University of Pretoria, Wits Technikon and
University of Stellenbosch between 1992 and 2006.
Anton has exhibited his work extensively in South Africa, Europe and the USA. He is represented by the Jack Shainman Gallery in New York and the Stevenson Gallery in South Africa. His work has been published in numerous publications and catalogues around the world, and is held in many permanent art collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
He has published a number of books including Pappa in Doubt (Jacana, 2015); The Erotic Drawings of Anton Kannemeyer (Stevenson, 2014); Alphabet of Democracy (Jacana, 2010); and Pappa in Afrika (Jacana, 2010), which won the best international graphic novel award at the Amadora International Comic Festival in Portugal in 2015.
